LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (6-13, 6-13 LSC) fell 10-0 in the first game of a three game series to No. 1 Angelo State (12-2, 8-2 LSC) on Friday.
The Rams broke the seal with a run in the bottom of the first for an early 1-0 lead. The run came in on an RBI double.
The game devolved in to a classic pitcher's duel, with both starters throwing the next four frames without giving up a run.
ASU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to push out to 2-0. The run scored on a fielding error by the left fielder.
They added two more runs in the seventh to go up 4-0. The two runs came across on a two RBI single to right field.
The Rams offense exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to seal the 10-0 victory. The first run came in on an error by the shortstop with another coming on sacrifice fly to left. The other runs came in back-to-back-to-back RBI singles. The final run crossed on a bases loaded walk.
Trent Baker (5-0) earned the win. Abanny Garcia (1-1) took the loss.
The two teams will face off again in the second game of the series tomorrow. First pitch is schedule for 6 p.m.
