KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (6-16) fell 6-5 in a non-conference matchup against Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-4) on Tuesday.
The Javelinas got the board first with a run in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 early lead. The run came in on a fielding error by the shortstop.
The Dustdevils answered in the second inning with three runs to take the lead 3-1. Sergio Esqueda drove in Ariben Gutierrez and Paris Johnson with a three run blast to left field.
In the bottom of the third, TAMUK tied things up 3-3 with two runs. The first run came in on a wild pitch with the other run coming on a fielding error by the left fielder. They retook the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to left field.
TAMIU tied the game 4-4 in the top of the eighth. A 4-6-3 double play brought in Luis Flores.
The Javelinas retook the lead 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth with two runs. The runs came in on a two run blast to left field.
The Dustdevils would get a run back in the ninth to cut the lead to 6-5, but ultimately come up short. A Brandon Butler sacrifice fly would bring home Phillip Sanchez.
Tyler Flores (1-0) got the win. Steven Grimes (0-2) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will stay on the road and continue the non-conference slate as they travel to Seguin, Texas on Tuesday, March 30 for a game against Texas Lutheran. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
