SEGUIN, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (7-16) downed Texas Lutheran (10-7) in a 5-4 comeback victory on Tuesday.
After both pitching staffs threw three innings of one hit, shutout baseball, the Dustdevils got on the board first in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 run. Daniel Quiroz drove in Brock Hargens with an RBI single up the middle.
The Bulldogs struck back in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The first run came in on an RBI double to left center, with the other run scoring on sacrifice fly to right.
TAMIU responded in the top of the seventh with a run to tie things at 2-2. Ariben Gutierrez crossed home on a fielding error by the left fielder.
TLU answered back in the bottom half of the seventh to retake the lead 4-2. A two-run homer scored both runs in the inning.
The Dustdevils sealed the win with three runs in the top of the ninth to take the 5-4 victory. Ariben Gutierrez scored on a bases loaded walk. Hargens brought in Matt Kissamis and Isaac Gonzalez.
Hugo Mendiola (1-2) earned the win with 1.0 inning pitched, two hits and no walks with Bryce Faust (2) earning the save. Chase Cutler (1-1) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will stay on the road as they travel to Austin, Texas on Friday, April 9 for a Lone Star Conference series against St. Edward's.
