AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (7-17, 6-16 LSC) fell to St. Edward's (9-15, 8-14 LSC) in the first game of a three-game set on Friday.
After both starters threw two and half scoreless innings to start the game, the Hilltoppers got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the third. The run came in on a groundout to the first baseman.
They added another two more runs to go up 3-0 in the fourth inning. The first run came home on a wild pitch. The other run scored on a bunt single.
The Dustdevils offense came alive with two outs in the fifth inning to cut the lead 3-1. Jerry Villareal blasted a solo homer over the left field wall to put TAMIU on the board.
SEU got the run back in the bottom half to go up 4-1. The run crossed on an RBI single to center field.
Both bullpens worked the final four frames without giving up a run, giving the Hilltoppers the 4-1 victory.
Blake Holub (4-3) earned the decision in the win. Abanny Garcia (1-3) took the loss.
The two teams will face off in game two on Saturday at 2 p.m.
