ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas A&M International University Dance wrapped up a successful competition finishing as the second runner up in both the pom and jazz divisions and third runner up overall in Division II at the American Collegiate Championships recently.
"In theory, I knew getting a team competition ready with a month's notice was going to be hard, but it was so much harder in practice," assistant coach Michelle Rubio-Garcia. "These girls really rose to the challenge and beat out universities that had been practicing all year. If this is what TAMIU dancers can produce in one month, I can't wait to see what happens next year. I'm so beyond proud and excited!"
The Dustdevils competed against nine other schools in NCAA Division II at the event, including fellow Lone Star Conference members Angelo State, DBU, Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. In fact, they finished ahead of ASU, DBU and UT Tyler in the jazz division, and ahead of ASU, TWU and UT Tyler in the pom division.
"TAMIU Dance will excel under the direction of Coach Michelle," said head coach Omar Minhas. "She brings experience, consistency, strong work ethic and a relentless pursuit of excellence to the dance program. TAMIU Dance will be competitive and continue to be a winning program. As we look forward to next season, we encourage all interested to reach out and register to be a part of the 2021-2022 Spirit Program the weekend of April 24 and 25."
