LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International dance competed in the Dance Team Union Collegiate Virtual Championships taking first place in hip-hop and third place in pom.
TAMIU dance learned of the results recently and recorded its performance on March 7.
"I am really proud of how this year's team handled this competition," said head coach Michell Rubio-Garcia. "We had to record earlier than expected and they adjusted quickly."
In its hip-hop championship, the first in the program's history, three universities in Division II competed. In the pom category, five Division II universities competed.
The Dustdevil dancers were the only Division II university from the state of Texas to compete.
The next competition for TAMIU Dance will take place in Daytona Beach, Fla. for the NDA Nationals.
Rubio stated, "We're using this competition as a litmus test to see where we're at for NDA Nationals in early April, so I'm very excited about the results and look forward to seeing these beautiful, talented young women excel among the best in the nation."
