AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (7-18, 6-17 LSC) dropped a 7-2 decision to St. Edward's (10-15, 8-14 LSC) on Saturday.
After a scoreless opening inning, the Hilltoppers broke the seal with four runs in the second inning. The first two runs came in on back-to-back fielder's choices. An RBI single brought in another run, with a sacrifice fly to center scoring the final run.
The Dustdevils got a run back in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-1. Ariben Gutierrez scored on a groundout to second base.
After both pitching staffs worked two scoreless innings, SEU added two insurance runs to go up 6-1. The first run came in on an RBI single to center, with the other run coming on a wild pitch.
The Hilltoppers added one more run in the bottom of the eighth to go up 7-1. The run scored on a wild pitch.
Dustdevils got a run in top of the ninth, but couldn't complete the comeback and ultimately fell 7-2 to SEU. Sergio Esqueda plated Paris Johnson on an RBI single to the left field wall.
Jack Granack (3-3) earned the win. Joseph Garza-Delapena (1-4) took the loss.
TAMIU will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
