AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (7-19, 6-18 LSC) fell 17-6 to St. Edward's (11-15, 9-14 LSC) in the series finale on Sunday.
Dustdevils got on the board early to take a 1-0 lead in their first trip to the plate. Phillip
Sanchez crossed home plate on an groundout to the first baseman.
The Hilltoppers responded in the bottom half of the inning by exploding for six runs. The first two runs scored on an RBI single to center, with another scoring on an error by the shortstop. A three-run homer brought home the remaining runs.Â
SEU added two more runs in the bottom of the second to push out to 8-1. The first run came on solo home run to straight away center. The other run scored on an RBI single up the middle.
TAMIU got two runs back in the third inning. Matt Kissamis drove in Sanchez with an RBI triple to the centerfield wall. Kissamis then scored on a groundout to the third baseman.
The Hilltoppers answered with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. A two-run homer brought in both runs.
The Dustdevils added two more runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 10-5. Kissamis brought in Sanchez and Ariben Gutierrez on a two RBI double to left field.
SEU got two more runs in the bottom half to go up 12-5. Both runs scored on a two RBI single to the shortstop.
The Hilltoppers once again added two more runs in the fifth to push out to 14-5. The first run scored on an RBI double. The other run came in on a ground out to first.
TAMIU got a run back in the sixth to trim the lead to 14-6. Brock Hargens brought in Luis Flores with a fielder's choice.
SEU scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win 17-6. A solo homer to left scored the first run, with an RBI double and an RBI single scoring the other runs.
Wesley Gafford (2-3) earned the win. Zach Pena (1-3) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will finally return home after the extended road trip on Friday, April 16 for a three-game series against West Texas A&M. First pitch is schedule for 2 p.m.
