Briana Cruz,
Shelby Edwards,
Melanie Lint,
Denise Longoria,
Miranda Martinez and
Amanda Vallejo before Sunday's doubleheader against Midwestern State. The Dustdevils received two stellar pitching performances from sophomore
Erika Cortez and freshman
Chelsea Salinas, en route to sweeping the Mustangs (13-27, 6-20). In game one, TAMIU brought home the 5-1 victory and followed it with a 6-2 victory in game two

Game 1: Texas A&M International 5, Midwestern State 1

After a scoreless first inning, Midwestern State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second thank to a solo home run.
Â
TAMIU immediately responded in the bottom of the second, making the score 3-1.
Â
Cortez drove in the tying run on an RBI double, immediately followed by a sacrifice fly from senior
Melanie Gamboa and then another RBI double, this time from senior
Morgan Chavarria.
Â
The Dustdevils had opportunities to add to the lead in the fourth and fifth innings, loaded the bases each frame, but were unable to push a run across.

In the sixth inning, senior
Shelby Edwards gave TAMIU extra insurance, hitting a two run home run to stretch the lead to 5-1.
Â
Cortez (13-7) threw yet another complete game, allowing one run, five hits, three walks and struck out seven on the afternoon.

Offensively, TAMIU spread the hits around, as seven Dustdevils had a single hit to the ledger, including Edwards (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 BB), Cortez (1-for-2, RBI) and Chavarria and junior
Darrian Smith (1-for-3, RBI each).

Game 2: Texas A&M International 6, Midwestern State 2

In game two, Midwestern State once again jumped ahead, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI fielder's choice.

TAMIU immediately answered in the bottom of the third, tying the game 1-1, when junior
Heather Ruiz hit a solo home run to center field.
Â
The Dustdevils took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Gamboa doubled down the left field line to score Salinas.
Â
The Mustangs quickly tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth, thanks to a sacrifice fly.
Â
TAMIU jumped again, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Â
Junior
Briana Arredondo gave the Dustdevils a 4-2 lead on a two RBI single, followed by an RBI walk by Salinas to make it 5-2 and a sacrifice fly from Gamboa to make the score 6-2.

The Dustdevils had another chance to add runs in the bottom of the sixth, but unfortunately left the bases loaded.
Â
Salinas (5-3) threw a superb game, throwing five innings, allowing two runs, four hits, three walks and struck out five.

In relief, all players recognized on senior day took the circle.
Denise Longoria threw the six inning, allowing just two hits, while
Melanie Lint and
Miranda Martinez combined to throw a hitless, five pitch seventh inning.
Â
Offensively, Ruiz and freshman
Victoria Gonzalez led the way going 2-for-4, while Arredondo, Salinas, Edwards and Gamboa each had a hit each.
