LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (9-25, 8-24 LSC) walked off the second game of a doubleheader with a 6-5 decision to split the twin bill with Cameron (6-29, 6-23 LSC) on Friday.
GAME 1 - CU 7, TAMIU 5
After both starters worked scoreless frames to start the game, the Dustdevils jumped on the board first with an early 2-0 lead in the second. Philip Sanchez scored on a Ariben Gutierrez squeeze bunt. Later in the inning, Luis Flores brought home Antonio Buentello with an RBI double to right.
They added two more runs in the third inning to go up 4-0. Brock Hargens plated Ronnie Bailey with a sacrifice fly to right. Gutierrez later brought in Matt Kissamis on an RBI single up the middle.
The Aggies got a run back in the fourth to trim the lead to 4-1 with an RBI single up the middle. In the sixth inning, they cut the lead to 4-3 with a two run homer right field.Â
In the bottom half of the inning, TAMIU pushed back out to 5-3. Isaac Gonzalez scored Gutierrez with an RBI single.
Cameron tied things up at 5-5 in the seventh inning. The first run came on a bases loaded hit by pitch, with the other run scoring on an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
They took the win 7-5 in the eight inning with a two run blast over the center field wall.
Carter Bourg (1-1) earned the win, with Tyler Cornett (1) earning the save. Hugo Mendiola (2-4) took the loss.
GAME 2 - TAMIU 6, CU 5
The Aggies wasted no time getting on the board in the second game as they went up 1-0 with an RBI single to left to open the game.
TAMIU responded in the bottom half to take the lead 2-1. Sanchez scored Kissamis with an RBI single up the middle. Daniel Quiroz scored Sanchez on an RBI double to center.
Cameron exploded for four runs in the fifth to go up 5-2. Three runs came in on a bases clearing double to center field with the other run scoring on an infield single.
The Dustdevils battled back and cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning. Bailey launched a solo shot over the right center field wall. Gutierrez later brought in Paris Johnson with a sacrifice fly to right. They tied things up at 5-5 in the seventh as Flores scored on an error by the right fielder.Â
In the bottom of the ninth, Hargens got things started with a leadoff single to center. Flores moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Isaac Gonzalez walked to put runners on first and second. Ronnie Bailey played hero as he walked off the game with a single to left to bring in Hargens.
Bryce Faust (2-3) earned the win with 2.0 innings pitched, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. Drew Henderson (1-1) suffered the loss.
TAMIU will look to take the series in the regular season finale tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they honor the seven seniors before the game.
