TYLER, Texas- Texas A&M International men's soccer continued its non-conference tour against fellow Lone Star Conference opponents against UT Tyler. The Dustdevils (2-4-1, 0-0-0 LSC) fell to the Patriots (3-2-1, 0-0-0 LSC) 4-3.Â
UT Tyler opened the scoring at 11:52 of the first half, but TAMIU responded just over 10 minutes later when sophomore Gabriel Gacovicaj scored at 22:12 on an assist from junior Lassana Diakite to even the game 1-1
The 1-1 tally stayed in tact until 52:12 of the second half when the Patriots took a 2-1 lead.
UT Tyler added a goal at 62:04 to make it 3-1, but again TAMIU would respond 2:36 later on a goal by Diakite, assisted by senior Kristian Colaci.Â
The Patriots found the net at 72:44 to make the score 4-2, however the Dustdevils again cut the deficit to one, when Colaci made it 4-3 at 77:34 on assists by freshman Andres Herrera and junior Gregory Franusic.Â
Unfortunately for TAMIU, the Patriots would hold on to take the victory.Â
Both teams had numerous opportunities, with UT Tyler leading the way in shots, 20-16. The Patriots put 10 shots on the net, while the Dustdevils placed seven on target.Â
TAMIU rounds out its home non-conference schedule when it takes the field on Wednesday Sept. 29. St. Mary's comes to Laredo for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
