Lady Dustdevils Lose Heartbreaker In OT

The Texas A&M International women’s soccer team kicked off their 2021 season at home against the visiting Argonauts of the University of West Florida on Friday night.

Laredo, TX- The Texas A&M International women's soccer team kicked off their 2021 season at home against the visiting Argonauts of the University of West Florida on Friday night. In what was an exciting fast paced match with lots of pressure from both teams, changes of possession, physicality, strategy, and finally fans back inside the stadium, everything a soccer fan could enjoy was there on the pitch.
The match was the first of the season for both teams and was evenly matched from the first minute to the last minute of overtime, which resulted in a 2-1 win for West Florida. The Argonauts were able to out shoot the Dustdevils 18-13 on the night but the Dustdevils were able to land more shots on goal (9) than UWF (8) on the night.
Blair Cowan scored the Argos first goal in the 9th minute of the match to put the Argos up 1-0. This would remain the score until the second half in the 66th minute of the match when a penalty kick would ensue for the Dustdevils with a chance to capitalize and even the match. Valeria Macias netted her first goal of the season striking the net in the bottom right in her PK chance to even the score. The match was a back and forth from start to finish with teams exchanging control for periods of time; UWF scored the game winner in OT after a costly error.
Your Lady Dustdevils will head out on the road for a pair of matchups down in Lakeland, FL for their next opponents, Florida Southern and St. Leo, as they look to get in the win column.
