TAMIU Drops LSC Opener To DBU

DALLAS, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer opened its Lone Star Conference schedule on the road against DBU, but it was one to put aside quickly, as the Dustdevils fell to the Patriots, 5-2.

It was an even first half for the first 40 minutes as the score was tied 1-1.

DBU (2-3-4, 1-0-0 LSC) opened the scoring at the 26:09 mark, but then TAMIU (2-4-4, 0-1-0 LSC) received some help from the Patriots, as an own goal tied the game at 33:11.

Then a forgetful final 2:47 happened for the Dustdevils, as DBU netted three goals in that time frame, including two in the final minute of the half, to lead 4-1 at the break.

The Patriots added their fifth goal at 83:18 before TAMIU scored its second goal of the night at the 88:32 mark when freshman Jorge Mares scored his first collegiate goal.

The Dustdevils were outshot 16-9 in the game, as well as 7-5 in the shots on goal department.

Junior Lassana Diakite led the team with four shots in the game and two shots on goal.

TAMIU opens its home conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when it welcomes UT Permian Basin to the TAMIU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
