CHADRON, Neb. – Texas A&M International women's basketball ended the opening weekend road trip with a dominant 73-46 victory over Chadron State for the first win of the season.

TAMIU (1-1, 0-0 LSC) would lead the entire game, beginning with a 21-11 lead through one quarter.

The Eagles (0-2, 0-0 RMAC) cut the deficit to seven points in the second quarter, but the Dustdevils won the second frame 19-15 and took a 40-26 lead into the locker room.

After the half, both teams were defensive, with TAMIU outscoring Chadron State 12-8, while limiting the Eagles to just 2-for-17 shooting.

In the fourth, another 21 points hit the scoreboard for the Dustdevils offensively, shooting a stellar 8-for-13 (61.5%) from the floor to add on to the already wide margin.

For the game, the Dustdevils shot 44.3% (27-for-61) from the floor and made two of 11 attempts from behind the arc. Free-throw shooting was tremendous, making 17-of-20 from the stripe

On the other side, the TAMIU defense limited Chadron State to just 12-for-55 shooting (21.8%) and 2-for-17 (11.8%) from the perimeter. Nearly half of the Eagles' points came from the free-throw line, connecting 20 times on 28 tries.

Junior Rai Brown had her second consecutive 20+ point performance, scoring 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting, alongside eight rebounds.

Sophomore Evelyn Quiroz chipped in 11 points and four assists, while freshman Angelique Morgan added 10 points off the bench

Junior Marija Bakic filled the stat sheet, scoring four points, while adding three rebounds, three blocks and five steals.

The Dustdevils take the home court for the first time on Wednesday, Nov. 16, when they face Dallas Christian inside the KCB. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
