TAMIU Hits 100 For First Time Since 2011 In 108-57 Win Over Dallas Christian

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's basketball topped 100 points for the first time since the 2011-12 season, defeating Dallas Christian 108-57.

The 108 points is the fifth time in the NCAA Division II era the Dustdevils have eclipsed 100 points and it's the third highest total of them all.
 
TAMIU (3-1, 0-0 LSC) would again lead the entire game, but it was a much closer score after one quarter than yesterday's matchup, as the Crusaders (0-5) trailed just 24-17 to TAMIU.

The Dustdevils would then outscore Dallas Christian 27-9 in the second, doing so on 11-for-18 shooting (61.1%), while limiting the Crusaders to 4-for-16 (25%) in the 10 minutes before halftime.

At the half, TAMIU led 51-26, shooting 58.3% in the opening 20 minutes, while Dallas Christian was limited to 36.4%.

The Dustdevils would double up the Crusaders in the third quarter, 28-14 and then in the fourth quarter outscored Dallas Christian 29-17, while having their best shooting quarter of the game, capitalizing on 12 of 19 attempts, a 63.2% clip.

For the game, TAMIU shot 56.4%% (44-for-78) from the floor and made 12 of 27 (44.4%) attempts from behind the arc. The Dustdevils also out-rebounded the Crusaders 42-22 and outscored them 62-36 in the paint. The team had 31 total assists which came just two shy of the program record of 33.
 
On the other side, the Dustdevil defense limited Dallas Christian to 26-for-66 shooting (39.4%) and 3-for-13 (23.1%) from the perimeter.
 
Freshman Meli Hornedo had another impressive outing, scoring a team high 18 points, going 6-for-11 from behind the arc.
Redshirt freshman Madison Ansari secured her first collegiate double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Rai Brown had her first double-double of the season, 15 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Junior Marija Bakic (10 points), and sophomores Evelyn Quiroz (13 points, five rebounds, five assists) and Barbara Turkalj (13 points, three rebounds, three steals) all entered double figures as well, while freshman Angelique Morgan came two assists shy of matching the program record, having 10 to go with four points.
 
TAMIU returns to the floor on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they host Adams State to conclude the home stand before beginning conference play. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
