SILVER CITY, N.M. – Fresh off a 2-0 week at home, Texas A&M International took to the road and began a three game stretch to end the season on Monday night against Western New Mexico. The road woes for TAMIU continued as they fell to the Mustangs 61-51.

The Dustdevils (16-9, 7-7 LSC) held a slim lead through one quarter, up 14-12 after the opening 10 minutes.

The second quarter was very low scoring, as Western New Mexico (6-15, 2-11 LSC) held a 13-9 edge in the frame to take a 25-23 lead into the locker room.

Out of the locker room, the Dustdevils chipped the deficit to just one by the quarter's end, taking the third 16-15 and trailed just 50-49.

However, in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs really began to knock down their shots and put up 21 points to just 12 for TAMIU and came away victorious, upsetting the Dustdevils.

TAMIU, for the game, shot 41.7% (20-for-48) from the floor, but were just 25% (3-for-12) from deep The Dustdevils also struggled from the free-throw line, going 8-for-17.

On the other side, the Mustangs finished 21-for-55 (38.2%) from the floor, but the difference maker was shooting from the perimeter, going 9-for-17 (52.9%) from and 10-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore
Rai Brown, fresh off being named LSC Offensive Player of the Week, scored a team high 14 points with five rebounds and four assists.

Fellow sophomore
Clara Fernandez followed just behind with a 13 points, five rebound, three steal showing, while senior
Eva Langton added nine points and three steals.

TAMIU has to quickly put the loss behind them as there still is hope to host an LSC Tournament game. Coming up next is Cameron in Lawton, Okla. on Thursday, Feb. 24, with opening tip scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
