Dustdevils Drop Opener To Angelo State

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball being its four game home stand against #17 Angelo State, and in the end it was the Rams coming out victorious 13-2 in seven innings.
 
Angelo State opened the scoring in the second inning, taking a 4-0 lead, scoring all four runs that frame.
 
TAMIU had opportunities in both the bottom of the first and second innings.
 
In the bottom of the first, the Dustdevils loaded the bases with one out and loaded the bags in the bottom of the second with no outs, but were unable to bring a run across.
 
The Rams added to the lead in the top of the third, making it 5-0, but TAMIU would respond in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to trim the deficit.
 
The Dustdevils made it 5-1 in the third when senior Ariben Gutierrez scored on an error, then made it 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch.
 
However, TAMIU again loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth and only the run on the wild pitch crossed, making the Dustdevils 0-for-8 with a runner on third in the game.
 
The rest of the way, Angelo State took over, scoring six in the top of the sixth to lead 11-2, then two in the top of the seventh to make it the final of 13-2.
 
Freshman Christopher Sauceda tossed five innings in the start, allowing five runs, five hits, four walks and two strikeouts.
 
TAMIU used four pitchers out of the bullpen and allowed eight runs (four earned), four hits, seven walks and one strikeout.
 
The Dustdevils outhit the Rams, 10-9, with Gutierrez (2-for-3), senior Brock Hargens (2-for-3) and junior Matt Kissamis (2-for-4), all having a multi-hit game. Four others added a single hit.
 
TAMIU now looks to tomorrow's doubleheader against Angelo State, with game one beginning at 1 p.m. Both games will be seven inning contests.
