LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball received stellar starting pitching, but were unable to pull out a victory in Saturday's doubleheader, falling 4-0 and 6-0.
 
GAME 1: #17 Angelo State 4 Texas A&M International 0
 
It took until the fourth inning before a run crossed, with the Rams taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI double.
 
The only other runs scored came off a three run home run in the seventh inning by Angelo State.
 
TAMIU's best chances to score came in the third and fifth innings, getting a runner to third base in both frames.
 
Senior 
Abanny Garcia pitched well for the Dustdevils. In the complete game effort, he allowed four runs (two earned), five hits and struck out two.
 
Offensively, senior 
Ronnie Bailey led the team going 2-for-3, while four others chipped in a single hit for the six total in the game.
 
GAME 2: #17 Angelo State 6 Texas A&M International 0 F/9
 
Another pitcher's duel in game two, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard until extra innings of the scheduled seven inning contest.
 
Sophomore 
Jan Cabrera worked his way out of a couple jams during regulation to hold the game scoreless.
 
It was the ninth inning where Angelo State scored all six runs. After an out to open the ninth, back-to-back walks put two runners on and then a TAMIU dropped fly ball in foul territory was deemed fair, loading the bases and flipped the momentum as the Rams scored all six runs, unearned, on just one hit.
 
Cabrera was tremendous for the Dustdevils, pitching eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits, one walk and struck out five.
 
Four relievers combined to pitch the ninth inning and allowed six runs (zero earned), one hit, three walks and three hit batters.
 
TAMIU could only muster one hit offensively, with senior 
Brock Hargens breaking up a no-hitter with two outs in the eighth inning.
 
The Dustdevils return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the final game of the series.
