Dustdevils Fall In Series Finale To #17 Rams

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball had #17 Angelo State three outs away for taking the final game of the season series, but an eight run, ninth inning by the Rams thwarted the Dustdevils, 11-4.
 
TAMIU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by senior Ronnie Bailey, scoring fellow senior Ariben Gutierrez to make it 1-0.
 
Angelo State countered immediately in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead of its own.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Dustdevils regained the lead at 3-2, thanks to a two RBI single by junior Isaac Gonzalez.
 
The Rams tied the game in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but TAMIU countered to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, when junior Leeandro Alfonzo scored on a wild pitch.
 
Innings six through eight went by scoreless, but in the ninth inning, Angelo State scored eight runs in the top of the frame to take an 11-4 lead and seal the win.
 
Senior Joseph Garza-Delapena got the nod for the Dustdevils, and in 4+ innings, allowed three runs, six hits, four walks and struck out three.
 
Sophomore Andrew Delgadillo threw 4+ innings of his own in relief, allowing two runs, three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
 
Three others for TAMIU came out of the bullpen in the ninth and combined for one inning, six runs (four earned), three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
 
The Dustdevils scattered 10 hits throughout the game, with Gonzalez (2-for-3), Alfonzo (2-for-4) and graduate student Dan Hernandez (2-for-5) all having a multi-hit game.
 
TAMIU now a week of respite before heading on the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas. First pitch on Friday, Apr. 1 is slated for 6 p.m.
