Dustdevils Drop Series Finale To Hilltoppers

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball feel behind early and despite a late offensive surge, fell to St. Edward's 12-5 in the series finale.
 
St. Edward's jumped quickly, posting a run in the top of the first, two in the top of the third, sixth in the fourth and one more in the fifth inning to lead 10-0.
 
TAMIU cut the deficit to 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, behind a two-run home run by yesterday's game two hero, junior Isaac Gonzalez and an RBI single by yesterday's game one hero, junior Beto Cervantes.
 
The Hilltoppers earned a couple of those runs back in the top of the seventh, scoring two to make it a 12-3 game.
 
The Dustdevils plated two more in the bottom of the eighth to end the scoring, with RBI singles from freshman Alex Lugo and Gonzalez.
 
Senior Joseph Garz-Delapena got the nod, allowing six runs, four hits, five walks and four strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
 
Sophomore Andrew Delgadillo worked just 1/3 inning, allowing three runs, four hits and a walk.
 
Fellow sophomore Rolando Riza pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs, two hits and a walk, while senior Andrew Pavon worked 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit, one walk and two strikeouts.
 
The Dustdevils had 15 hits, with Gonzalez's 4-for-5 leading the way. Senior's Ariben Gutierrez and Brock Hargens both added a multi-hit game to the ledger.
 
TAMIU has a shortened week ahead due to the Easter holiday and begin a series with West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas on Thursday, Apr. 14. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
