TAMIU Drops Doubleheader To #15 Lubbock Christian

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball dropped a pitcher's duel, 2-0, in game one against #15 Lubbock Christian, and in game two TAMIU would fall in five innings, 13-0.

TAMIU had opportunities throughout to push a run across, leaving five runners stranded in the game, all in scoring position.
 
In the first inning, the Dustdevils had runners on second and third with one out in the second and fourth innings and a runner on second with two outs in the fifth inning.
 
In the top of the sixth, Lubbock Christian scored the only two runs of the game with a two-run home run.
 
Offensively, TAMIU had just two hits, collected by junior Heather Ruiz and freshman Alex Hernandez.

Game 2: #15 Lubbock Christian 13 Texas A&M International 0 F/5

Game two was all Lady Chaps, jumping ahead early and often.
 
Lubbock Christian plated three in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and seven in the fourth inning to make the score the eventual final of 13-0.
 
TAMIU would cut the deficit in half with an RBI double by Smith to make it 2-1.
 
Freshman Carla Arellano worked two innings in the start, allowing five runs and five hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
 
Fellow freshman Sara Papizan allowed eight runs (five earned) and five hits in 1.1 innings of relief, while sophomore Victoria Gonzalez worked 1.2 innings, allowing just two hits.
 
Ruiz collected the lone hit of the game offensively for TAMIU.
 
The Dustdevils now have a week off, before their final road trip begins on Apr. 22 in Denton, Texas against Texas Woman's. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
