CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball fell in a heartbreaking series finale to the #5 West Texas A&M Buffaloes, 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
Senior
Brock Hargens started the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
The Dustdevils added to its lead, making it 2-0 in the top of the fourth, when senior
Ariben Gutierrez scored on a wild pitch.
The Buffaloes would tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run home run, and then walked it off in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single to take the 3-2 victory.
Freshman
Christopher Sauceda got the nod for TAMIU and in 5.2 innings, allowed two runs, eight hits, one walk and struck out two.
Sophomore
Jan Cabrera finished the game in relief, working three innings, allowing one run, three hits, one walk and fanned two.
TAMIU had eight hits offensively, with Hargens going 2-for-3 and junior
Matt Kissamis also having a multi-hit game at 2-for-4.
The Dustdevils return to action on Friday, Apr. 22 at 2 p.m. as they begin their final home series of the season against Eastern New Mexico. Friday's series opener will also serve as the Vs. Cancer game.
