KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball led early, but Texas A&M-Kingsville chipped away to top the Dustdevils 3-2.
TAMIU opened the scoring in the top of the second with an RBI single by junior
Mario Chacon to score fellow junior
Beto Cervantes.
It wasn't until the sixth inning when TAMUK hit the scoreboard, tying the game with a double.
The Javelinas took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a two RBI single to lead 3-1.
The Dustdevils chipped away at the lead in the eighth, with an RBI groundout by sophomore
Daniel Quiroz, but that ended the comeback effort.
Senior
Joseph Garza-Delapena got the nod for the Dustdevils, and in 5.2 innings, allowed one run, two hits, seven walks and struck out three.
Sophomore
Adrian Talavera threw 0.2 innings, allowing two runs, two hits and a strikeout, while follow sophomore
Andrew Delgadillo threw 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and struck out one.
The Dustdevils had just three hits in the game with Cervantes, Chacon and senior
Brock Hargens all having one.
TAMIU returns home for a series against St. Edward's that is set to begin on Friday, Apr. 8 at 2 p.m. from Jorge Haynes Field.
