Box Score NAMPA, Idaho - Texas A&M International takes down the Nighthawks in a thrilling five-set match this evening.
The Dustdevils opened the contest swinging as Meagan Menchaca had three kills in the first 4 points of the set. The set was a hard-fought battle between the teams as it was a tie game nine times before the 15-point mark. TAMIUÂ fell behind by four towards the end of the set and could not get back on top, falling 21-25 in the first set.Â
The battle against the Nighthawks continued into the second set as the Dustdevils took the early lead 4-2. The set bounced back and forth until the last three points went unanswered by TAMIU, leading to the loss of 22-25 in the second.Â
The third set was electric as the score toggled between team and eventually went in favor of the Dustdevils in the race to 25. Menchaca had the game point with the assist from Emma Lade to take the third 25-23.Â
The fourth set was no different from the third as Jasmin Garcia sent the Dustdevils to the fifth with a 25-23 set win.Â
Starting the race to 15, TAMIU continued building their momentum in the quick set. The Dustdevils quickly gained a 4-point lead over the Nighthawks until NNU momentarily tied up the game. As the set was within one, Menchaca struck gold again from the right side taking the set 15-13. Â
Meagan Menchaca was the spark plug offensively, totaling 23 kills and one service ace over the five sets. Mackenzie Catalina trialed Menchaca with 17Â kills, Giulia Horetlan with 14, Hannah Thompson with 10, and Emma Lade with 64 assists.Â
The Dustdevils have their final game of the NNU Tournament tomorrow, August 27 at 10:00 am against Rollins.Â
