EDINBURG, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer picked up its first win of the 2022 season, toppling NCAA Division I's UTRGV, 1-0 on the road.

The lone goal of the game came at the 56:24 mark, when Dustdevil junior
Jordan Mase buried a penalty kick to seal the victory.

TAMIU, based on the stat sheet was able to bring home the shutout, despite being outshot 19-5 in the contest.

UTRGV outshot the Dustdevils 12-1 in the first half, but the TAMIU defense locked in and the shot total was just 7-4 in favor of the Vaqueros in the second half.

The key to the shot totals, however, was that UTRGV only put eight of 19 on net, while the Dustdevils placed three of five on the frame.

Corner kicks also heavily favored UTRGV, 10-1 throughout the game.

Junior
Robin Verhoeven earned his first career shutout, stopping each of the eight shots he faced on net.

Mase was the team leader with two shots, while fellow juniors
Aaron Rich and
Magnus Poulsen joined Mase with the other two shots on goal.

TAMIU has a week off before continuing the road trip in Wichita Falls, Texas for two games in neutral site action at Midwestern State University. The first opponent for the Dustdevils is Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m.
