Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Petrova's Late Goal Lifts TAMIU Past Regis, 2-1

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer secured its second win of the season in a battle against Regis, 2-1.

TAMIU netted the first goal of the game at the 23:28 mark of the first half when junior Alicia Martinez scored on a helper from fellow junior Sammy Hecht.

The 1-0 lead stood through the remainder of the half and slightly into the second half, until Regis knotted the game 2:22 into the second half, making the score 1-1.

With 17:39 remaining, Dustdevil sophomore, Stefanie Petrova, scored her first collegiate goal, giving TAMIU the 2-1 lead. Assisting on the goal was junior Krysan St. Louis.

The shot total was even for the game, as both teams had nine throughout. The Dustdevils held the edge in shots on goal, placing seven on the frame, to just three for Regis.

UTRGV outshot the Dustdevils 12-1 in the first half, but the TAMIU defense locked in and the

Corner kicks were very even as well, as the Rangers held a slim 4-3 edge in that category.

St. Louis led the team with three shots on goal and four total shots, while both Petrova and Martinez had two attempts and both of their lone shots on goal found the net.

Looking for the first 3-0 start in program history, the Dustdevils take the pitch again on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m., in non-conference action, hosting Felician.
