LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer, for the first time in program history, start the season 3-0 after defeating Felician 4-1.

It was the Golden Falcons (0-3) who struck first at 34:29 to lead 1-0 after an extended stalemate.

The Dustdevils (3-0, 0-0 LSC) found the back of the net at 42:50 to send the game into halftime tied 1-1, but thanks to the help of an own goal that bounced off a Felician defender.

A 1-1 score only lasted 2:36 of game time, as redshirt senior
Jackie Zapata found the back of the net just 26 seconds into the second half to give TAMIU the 2-1 lead, assisted by junior
Joana Aguilar.

The lead grew to 3-1 at the 64:29 mark when junior
Sammy Hecht netted her first goal as a Dustdevil and was followed at 79:36 as Zapata made the score 4-1 on her second of the game, with assists coming from sophomore
Stefanie Petrova and freshman
Ivy Lara.

The shot total favored TAMIU at 14-9 and heavily favored the Dustdevils in shots on goal at 10-4. TAMIU also held a 3-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Junior
Krysan St. Louis and Zapate led the team with four shots, while Hecht followed with three. Three of Zapata's four shots were on target, while both St. Louis and Hecht had two on goal.

The Dustdevils look to continue their historic open to a season, as the travel to Colorado for a pair of matchups this coming weekend. Adams State is the first opponent and kickoff from Alamosa, Colo. is set for 4 p.m. CST/3 p.m. MST on Friday, Sept. 9.
