Dustdevils Hand Patriots First Loss With 2-0 Victory

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer ended a three-game tie streak, giving UT Tyler its first loss of the season, 2-0.

It was an even first half with the score sitting at 0-0, as both teams played very defensive soccer.

In the first 45 minutes, TAMIU had just four shots and UT Tyler (5-1-1, 0-0-0 LSC) had just two.

At 56:29, the Dustdevils (2-3-3, 0-0-0 LSC) found the back of the net thanks to sophomore Ricky Casso scoring his first collegiate goal, assisted by junior Tajani Fairclough.

Just under 20 minutes later, at 75:07, TAMIU added an insurance goal, this time Fairclough with his first goal as a Dustdevil off an assist from freshman Inaki Solabarrieta.

TAMIU outshot the Patriots 9-5 in the game and 4-2 in the shot on goal category.

Fairclough, Casso and junior Jordan Mase all led the way with two shots, as Fairclough had two of the four shots on goal to lead the team.

Junior keeper Robin Verhoeven picked up his second shutout of the season making both saves that were needed to be made.

TAMIU returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 24 to begin a two-game road trip. First up is St. Mary's in the final non-conference matchup of the regular season. Kickoff in San Antonio, Texas is set for 7 p.m.
