Rapid City, S.D. – Texas A&M International men's basketball fell to South Dakota Mines on Saturday, 84-66 in the second game of the season after falling behind 41-28 in the first half.
The Rockers (1-1) shot 25 of 47 from the field and 10 of 23 from behind the arc, compared to 19 of 51 from the field for the Dustdevils (1-1) and 4 of 16 from deep.
TAMIU outrebounded South Dakota Mines 33 to 29 but committed 16 turnovers compared to just 11 for the Rockers. Mines had 10 assists compared to five for TAMIU. Mines scored 25 of their points off turnovers.
Each team committed 23 fouls in the game, The Dustdevils were 24 of 36 from the charity stripe and the Rockers finished 24 of 31.
Matthew Okoye led TAMIU with 22 points and Olaverr Camacho added 10. John Achebe and Garrett Falls both tallied eight.
Esteban Roacho grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Dustdevils and Achebe dished out three assists. Damian Watson blocked two shots and Okoye and Roacho both swiped two steals.
TAMIU will be in action next at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14 at home against Southwest Adeventist.
