Vancouver, B.C., Canada - TAMIU Women's Basketball faced off against Central Washington in the Dustdevils second game of the Canadian Tipoff Classic. The game was an intense battle from start to finish. Ultimately, TAMIU emerged victorious with a final score of 82-64, improving their season record to 2-0.
TAMIU took control in the first quarter, shooting an impressive 64.71% from the field and securing an early lead with a score of 25-6 at the end of the first. Central Washington, however, showed resilience in the second quarter, with a strong 58.33% field goal percentage, narrowing the gap to 45-25 at the half.
In the third quarter, Central Washington made a significant comeback, shooting 72.73% from the field and outscoring the Dustdevils, but TAMIU took a 65-50 lead into the fourth. In the final quarter, both teams fought fiercely, but TAMIU's suffocating defense proved too much for the Wildcats.
Raiana Brown led the Dustdevils with 26 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals.
Malea Jackson and
Samiyah Worrell each contributed 11 points, and
Emily Swiercz displayed her all-around skills with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Central Washington's Asher Cai recording 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Valerie Huerta added 16 points and an impressive 12 assists.
Overall, TAMIU shot 43.9% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc. Central Washington had a field goal percentage of 42.3% and a three-point shooting rate of 23.1%.
The Dustdevils are in action again against Simon Fraser on Sunday, November 5 at 5pm CST for their third and final game of the Canadian Tipoff Classic.
