TAMIU holds on for second straight win

TYLER, Texas - Texas A&M International men's basketball held on to win its second-straight game with an 80-76 win over UT Tyler on Saturday.
  
 The first half was all Dustdevils early, as TAMIU (15-11, 8-10 LSC) started on a 9-0 run over the first 2:24.
  
 The Patriots (9-13, 5-13 LSC) went on a 12-6 run over the next five and a half minutes to cut the lead to 15-12. 

The two teams traded buckets for the rest of the half, but the Dustdevils were able to capture a 41-37 lead before the break. 
 
 The teams continued to trade hoops out of halftime, but TAMIU slowly captured a 58-48 lead over the first 10 minutes. 
 
 Towards the end of the half, the Dustdevils held on to a 70-60 lead with 5:15 left. 
 
 The Patriots then went on a 9-1 run over the next two minutes to cut the deficit to 71-69 but finished the game on a 9-7 run to seal the win. 
  
 For the game, TAMIU still finished the night going 24-for-49 (49%) from the floor and 6-for-13 (46.2%) from three. They went 26 of 29 from the charity stripe. 
  
 On the other side, UT Tyler finished 24-for-54 (44.4%) from the field, 10-for-22 (45.5%) from deep, and 18-for-22 from the foul line.
  
 The Dustdevils were led offensively by senior Jermaine Drewey who scored 21 points behind five three-pointers and he also collected two rebounds.
  
 Graduate Student Greg Bowie II added 18 points, junior Tyrese Davis totaled 14 points and six rebounds and sophomore Lonzo Rand tallied 11
 
 TAMIU returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 16 when they host Cameron for an 8 p.m. tip.
