TAMIU Falls to Eastern New Mexico in Game Four

PORTALES, New Mexico – Texas A&M International baseball looked to even the series against Eastern New Mexico in game four but dropped a hard-fought battle, 8-6.
  
TAMIU jumped ahead in the bottom of the first, scoring a single run off an RBI single from Ronnie Bailey to make it a 1-0 game.
  
The Dustdevils hit the scoreboard again in the top of the second, taking a 4-0 lead with a three-run inning.
  
Senior Leeandro Alfonzo singled in a run, junior Ariben Gutierrez scored on a groundout and junior Joseph Cruz singled in a run. 
  
However, the Greyhounds responded with a two-run bottom half of the second to cut the lead right back to 4-2.
  
Eastern New Mexico opened the floodgates in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs to take an 8-4 lead.
 
TAMIU tried to rally in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs off a throwing error and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Alex Lugo. But, the Greyhounds hauled the run and held the Dustdevils scoreless in the ninth to seal the win. 
  
Junior Danny Dial threw four innings in the start, allowing two runs, two hits, four walks and striking out four.
  
Four pitchers combined for four innings of relief and allowed six runs, six hits, one walk and struck out three. 
  
TAMIU had 10 hits on the days, with Cruz leading the way with a 2-for-3 showing with one RBI.
  
The Dustdevils are in action next on Wednesday, Feb. in a one-game nonconference matchup against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
