ODESSA, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball fell in both games of Friday's doubleheader against UT Permian Basin, by final scores of 5-2 and 14-3 to fall to 4-11 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
GAME 1: UT Permian Basin 5 Texas A&M International 2 (7 Innings)Â
TAMIU started the game out hot, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning after Joseph Cruz singled in a run and Matt Kissamis blasted an RBI double down the left-field line.Â
The Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom of the first.Â
The two teams entered a defensive battle with neither squad scoring over the next four innings. But UT Permian Basin plated three runs in the fifth off a three-run home run and held the Dustdevils scoreless in the final two innings.Â
Cody Templeton started the game on the mound, pitching five innings. He allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits while walking one batter and striking out two.Â
Andrew Delgadillo pitched one inning of relief, allowing no runs, one hit, and one strikeout.Â
At the plate, TAMIU collected six hits, with Cruz going 2-for-4 and Beto Cervantes finishing 2-for-3.Â
GAME 2: UT Permian Basin 14 Texas A&M International 3 (8 Innings)Â
The Falcons struck first with one run in the bottom of the first before adding six in the fourth and four in the fifth to take an 11-0 lead.Â
TAMIU tried to rally in the top of the sixth, plating three runs.
Cruz scored on an error, Cam Stevenson doubled in a run and Cervantes singled in a run. Â
UT Permian Basin responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth and won on a walk-off hit batter with loaded bases in the bottom of the eighth to invoke the run rule.Â
Joseph Garza-Delapena pitched 3.2 innings for the Dustdevils, allowing seven runs on eight walks and two walks while striking out two batters.Â
Three TAMIU pitchers combined for four innings where they allowed seven runs on six hits while walking five batters and hitting two. Mario Garcia struck out two batters.Â
The Dustdevils recorded six hits as a team with Cervantes leading the way with a 2-for-4 day.Â
TAMIU now looks to salvage the series and finish with a split, as they play UT Permian Basin tomorrow in another doubleheader, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 12 p.m.
