Box Score 2 ODESSA, Texas – After losing both halves of Friday's doubleheader, Texas A&M International Baseball split a doubleheader with UT Permian Basin Baseball on Saturday, winning the first game 6-5 and losing the second one 10-8.
Texas A&M International 6 UT Permian Basin 5 (7 innings)
The Dustdevils (5-12, 5-11 LSC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
Joseph Cruz laid down a bunt that scored one run on a throwing error and
Cameron Stevenson scored on a fielder's choice.
The Falcons (7-9, 7-9 LSC) earned one run back in the bottom half of the first.
TAMIU extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the second after
Ariben Gutierrez doubled in a run.
UT Permian Basin scored one run in the third and three in the fourth to capture a 5-3 lead.
The Dustdevils closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fifth after
Beto Cervantes hit a sacrifice fly to score Gutierrez.
TAMIU took the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs.
Daniel Hernandez doubled in a run and Cruz singled in a run.
Lalo Salinas pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three batters and walking three.
Gutierrez led the Dustdevils from the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Cruz and
Mario Chacon both recorded two hits.

TAMIU exploded out of the gate, scoring five runs in the top of the first.
Cervantes doubled in a run, Chacon singled in two runs and
Leeandro Alfonzo singled in two runs.
The Falcons responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead in the bottom of the third scoring two more.
UT Permian Basin extended its lead, scoring two in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 10-5 lead.
The Dustdevils tried to rally at the end of the game, scoring two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Hernandez singled in a run, Cervantes hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and
Marcos Alvarado scored on a groundout.
Jan Cabrera got the start, pitching six innings. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits while striking out eight and walking one.
Reese Petersen pitched one inning of relief allowing two runs on two hits and a walk and
Caleb Strmiska pitched one inning allowing no runs on no hits and striking out one.
TAMIU finished the game with eight hits. Cervantes and Alvarado led the way with two hits each.
The Dustdevils are in action next at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, when they return home to take on Texas A&M Kingsville in a non-conference clash.
