LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball lost its opening-day matchup at home against West Texas A&M on Friday, 10-1, after going scoreless for the first seven innings and surrendering seven runs in that time frame.
TAMIU (0-1, 0-1 LSC) fell behind early, surrendering one run in the first, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
Senior
Cameron Stevenson hit a sacrifice fly for the lone Dustdevil run allowing
Joseph Cruz to score.
Freshman
Cody Templeton pitched 3.1 innings, allowing the Buffaloes (1-0, 1-0 LSC) to score three runs on four hits. He struck out three batters and walked three.
West Texas A&M scored one more in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and added an insurance run in the ninth.
Five Dustdevils combined for 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs (five earned), seven walks, and four strikeouts.
At the plate, Cruz led the team with a 2-for-4 day and a run scored, Senior
Ronnie Bailey went 2-for-4, while junior
Daniel Quiroz recorded the only other hit.
The Dustdevils play West Texas A&M in games two and three of the four-game series on Thursday, Feb. 4 in a doubleheader. The first pitch from Jorge Haynes Field is scheduled for noon.
