LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball ended its four-game home stand against West Texas A&M, and in the end, it was the Buffaloes coming out victorious 17-2 in seven innings.
West Texas A&M opened the scoring early, taking a 10-0 lead, and scoring all 10 runs in the first three innings.
TAMIU had one base runner in the first three innings after a hit batter.
The Buffaloes scored two in the first, one in the second, and seven in the third.Â
The Dustdevils held West Texas A&M scoreless over the next two innings with neither squad being able to plate a run in the fourth or fifth.Â
TAMIU allowed two runs in the sixth but finally started its offense in the bottom half of the frame.Â
Junior Joseph Cruz singled to right field to get on base and graduate student Daniel Hernandez and sophomore Alex Lugo both blasted two-out doubles to score two runs to make the score 12-2.Â
However, the Buffaloes scored five runs in the top of the seventh and held the Dustdevils scoreless to close the game.Â
Danny Dial tossed 2.2 innings in the start, allowing 10 runs (seven earned), nine hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
TAMIU used four pitchers out of the bullpen and allowed seven runs, 11 hits, three walks, and five strikeouts.
Lugo finished the game 2-for-3, Cruz went 1-for-3 and Hernandez went 1-for-3. Cruz and Hernandez scored the runs, Hernandez and Lugo recorded the RBIs and redshirt-freshman Thomas Barnhart reached first on a base on balls.Â
The Dustdevils will be in action next at 5 p.m. on Friday at Eastern New Mexico in game one of a four-game series. Like TAMIU, the Greyhounds were swept in their opening-weekend series.Â
