TAMIU Completes Sweep Over UAFS

FORT SMITH, Arkansas – Texas A&M International Baseball completed the series sweep over UAFS on Sunday with a 10-6 win in game four. It is the first series sweep of the season for the Dustdevils.

The Lions (6-16, 4-16 LSC) took an early lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the first.

The Dustdevils (11-15, 10-14 LSC) responded back, scoring a run in the top of the third when Joseph Cruz doubled in a run.

UAFS recaptured the lead with a run in the fifth and took a 3-1 lead in the sixth.

TAMIU captured its first lead of the game in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Brock Hargens singled in a run, Mario Chacon doubled in a run and Daniel Quiroz hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.

The lead didn't last for long, as the Lions also scored three in the eighth to retake a 6-4 lead.

The Dustdevils offense continued to roll however and they scored two runs in the ninth to force extra innings and added four in the 10th to seal the win.

Hargens doubled in two runs in the ninth to tie the game, Cruz scored on a throwing error to take the lead, Antonio Buentello doubled in a pair of runs and Hargens singled in a run.

Isaac Ponce started the game on the mound and pitched one pinning where he allowed on run on two hits while waking two and striking out one.

Six different TAMIU pitchers threw relief, including Rolando Riza who pitched 0.2 innings where he allowed no runs and no hits and earned the win.

The Dustdevils recorded 16 hits from the plate as a team. Hernandez, Cruz and Hargens led the team with three hits each.

TAMIU will be in action next at 2 p.m. on Friday, March. 17, at home when it starts a four-game series against Oklahoma Chrisitian.
