LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International Baseball split a doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian on Friday, winning game one 4-2 before falling in game two 10-6.
TAMIU 4 Oklahoma Christian 2 (7 Innings)
The Dustdevils (12-15, 11-15 LSC) fell behind early after the Eagles (9-14, 9-13 LSC) scored in the top of the first.
But, TAMIU responded with a run in the bottom of the second on a sac bunt by senior
Brock Hargens.
The Dustdevils scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead and never trailed the rest of the game.
Graduate student
Daniel Hernandez doubled in a run and scored on a groundout from senior
Matt Kissamis.
TAMIU added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth after junior
Joseph Cruz doubled in a run.
Oklahoma Christian scored one in the top of the sixth but couldn't come any closer.
Freshman
Cody Templeton started the game on the mound and earned the win with six innings of work. He allowed two runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out five.
Redshirt freshman
Caleb Strmiska pitched one inning of relief and allowed no hits, no runs and no walks, while striking out one.
The Dustdevils recorded eight hits as a team and were led by Hernandez who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
Oklahoma Christian 10 TAMIU 6 (9 Innings)
TAMIU captured an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first after a balk in a bases-loaded situation, but Oklahoma Christian responded with three runs in the top of the second.
The Dustdevils scored four in the bottom of the second to take a 5-3 lead.
Senior
Leeandro Alfonzo doubled in a run, Cruz singled in run, Hernandez scored on a wild pitch and the Eagles walked in a run.
The Eagles recaptured the lead with three runs in the top of the third, but TAMIU tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-6.
The run came via a balk by the Oklahoma Christian pitcher.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good and added two more in the eighth.
TAMIU threw six pitchers in the second game who allowed 10 runs on 11 hits while walking six and striking out eight combined. Redshirt freshman

Billy Winans led the bullpen holding Oklahoma Christian for one inning each.
The Dustdevils recorded nine hits as a team with senior
Beto Cervantes and junior
Antonio Buentello both finishing with two hits each.
TAMIU will be in action next on Saturday, March 18 in a doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian to complete the four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
