Cameron's Pinch-Hit RBI Single In Sixth Lifts Dustdevils Past Rattlers To Win Season Series

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball held off St. Mary's in game three of the season series, picking up its first road series victory of the season in a 2-1 win.

The Dustdevils (12-17, 8-10 LSC) scored right away in the top of the first when sophomore Tajanae Davis singled in a run to make it a 1-0 game.

The Rattlers (20-8, 10-5 LSC) countered to plate their only run of the afternoon in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly to even the game at 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, TAMIU got the game-winning run thank to an RBI, pinch-hit single by sophomore Jazmyn Cameron to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 edge.

St. Mary's was limited to just two hits after the first inning, but threatened in the bottom of the seventh after an error, passed ball and groundout placed a runner at third, but she would be left stranded.

Junior Erika Cortez started the series finale and in the complete game effort she allowed just one run, three hits, walked three and struck out five.

Offensively, TAMIU recorded nine hits, with Davis going 2-for-4 and graduate Victoria Maldonado's 2-for-3 highlighting the scorebook.

After a huge series win, the Dustdevils prepare to welcome Western New Mexico this upcoming weekend. The three-game set begins on Friday, March 17 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
