Dustdevils Sweep Mustangs With 2-1 Victory

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball concluded its season series against Western New Mexico, completing the sweep with a 2-1 victory.

TAMIU (15-17, 11-10 LSC) jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI groundout from sophomore Tajanae Davis.

Western New Mexico (3-22, 1-17 LSC) battled back to tie the game in the top of the second with an RBI single to make it 1-1.

The Dustdevils plated the game winning run in the bottom of the third on another RBI groundout by Davis, enough to seal the victory.

TAMIU did have chances to really open the game but would leave runners stranded in scoring position in five of its six plate appearances.

Sophomore Tessa Ramirez got her first start in the circle for the Dustdevils and allowed just one run, six hits and struck out two.

Junior Erika Cortez earned the nine out save, throwing three innings while allowing just one hit, one walk and struck out two.

Offensively, TAMIU scattered five hits with five different players all collecting one hit.

The Dustdevils have a fast turnaround as they travel to Austin, Texas for a three-game set against St. Edward's, beginning with a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 21 at 1 p.m.
