LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball was unable to get the bats going, closing out the season series against St. Edward's with 2-0 and 1-0 losses in doubleheader action.
GAME 1: ST. EDWARD'S 2 TAMIU 0
After a quick first three innings, the Hilltoppers (19-11, 13-8 LSC) scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single and then plated a run on a double steal.
TAMIU (15-20, 11-13 LSC) had its chances in the game, but would have a runner at second doubled up on a line drive out in the second, leave a runner stranded at second in the third and then have a runner thrown out at the plate on a double play to end the game in the seventh.
Sophomore
Carla Arellano threw another complete game allowing just two runs, eight hits and struck out two, throwing just 59 pitches in the game.
Offensively, the Dustdevils had just four hits with four players each contributing one to the tally.
GAME 2: ST. EDWARD'S 1 TAMIU 0
St. Edward's would score its lone run of the game two in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single.
Again, TAMIU had chances to hit the board, but would leave a double stranded at second in the second inning, hit into an inning ending double play with the bases loaded in the third, another inning ending double play with runners on first and second in the sixth and left a runner at second in the seventh.
Sophomore
Tessa Ramirez was stellar in the circle for the Dustdevils, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run, three hits, three walks and struck out three.
As a team, TAMIU again had just four hits and again four different batters each had one hit.
The Dustdevils get themselves a break as they head into their bye weekend before returning to the field on Friday, March 31 for doubleheader action against nationally ranked Lubbock Christian. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
