CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International softball was unable to come away with a victory in its series against #14 West Texas A&M, falling in the finale 8-0 in five innings.
WTAMU would score the all eight of its runs needed to close the game in the first three innings.
In the first, the Lady Buffs scored two on an RBI double and RBI single. They followed that in the second inning with a rundown steal of home to make it 3-0.
The final five runs crossed in the bottom of the third inning with three RBI singles, an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI double.
The Dustdevils best chance came in the top of the fourth, collecting back-to-back two out singles.
Sophomore
Carla Arellano got the start and in 2.1 innings allowed eight runs, only four of which were earned, eight hits and one walk.
Sophomore
Tessa Ramirez tossed an 1.1 innings of relief, allowing three hits, while freshman
Celeste Apaez pitched the final 0.1 inning and allowed two hits.
Offensively, the Dustdevils collected two hits, singles by freshman
Kennedy Griego and sophomore
Tajanae Davis.
Lone Star Conference Tournament hopes are still possible for TAMIU, but they must win out to have its best chance.
The next series begins on Friday, April 21 with a doubleheader against UT Permain Basin at home. First pitch of the twin-bill is slated for 12 p.m.
