LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International softball celebrated two seniors,
Felicity Bernal and
Darrian Smith in their final home game, dominating UT Permian Basin 12-3 in run rule fashion.

The Falcons plated all three of their runs right away, getting a three-run homer to jump ahead 3-0 in the top of the first.

TAMIU responded in the bottom of the first inning, plating 13 batters and bringing across eight runs to take an 8-3 lead.

Scoring started with an RBI single from sophomore
Tajanae Davis, an RBI walk from Smith, an RBI hit by pitch from graduate
Victoria Maldonado, then took a 4-3 lead on an RBI single by sophomore
Dynasty Harpel.

Rounding out the scoring was Bernal making it 6-3 on a two RBI single. Freshman
Kristin Maldonado and junior
Kristy Alanis drove in the seventh and eighth runs on RBI singles.

Innings two through four went scoreless for UT Permian Basin, but the Dustdevils broke through again for the final four runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore
Hannah Reiley made it a 9-3 game, starting the scoring with a pinch-hit RBI single, followed by Bernal's third RBI of the game on a hit by pitch.

The score moved to 10-3 on a wild pitch, then the final run crossed on a
Kristin Maldonado RBI groundout.

Sophomore
Carla Arellano tossed the complete game, allowing three runs, three hits, walked two and struck out four.

TAMIU collected 11 hits in the contest with Alanis (2-for-3), Harpel (2-for-3), Davis (2-for-3) and Kristen Maldonado (2-for-4) all having a multi-hit game.

The Dustdevils are still in the playoff hunt, but need some help, as well as a likely sweep in their final series against #3 UT Tyler set to begin with doubleheader action on Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m.
