TAMIU traveled to Fort Smith, AR to face the Lions in LSC action on Saturday afternoon and came away with the win, 100-79.
The game started with a competitive first quarter, with both teams trading baskets. The Dustdevils shot 42.86% from the field and 50.00% from the free-throw line. The first quarter ended with a score of 21-19 in favor of the Dustdevils.
The second quarter saw the Dustdevils intensify their offensive efforts, particularly from beyond the arc. The Dustdevils shot 42.11% from the field and 50% from deep to take a 49-40 lead into the locker room at the half.
In the 3
rd, TAMIU shot an impressive 60.00% from the field and 50% from three. The Dustdevils closed out the game strongly, maintaining 60% shooting from the floor and improving to an impressive 60% from beyond the arc.
Four Dustdevils scored in double figures on the day.
Malea Jackson led the Dustdevils with a season high 28 points, including 5-8 from beyond the arc.
Samiyah Worrell added 21 points, going 5-9 from deep.
Raiana Brown contributed 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Ngozi Obineke rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
With the win, the Dustdevils improve to 15-2 and 7-2 in the Lone Star Conference. TAMIU stays on the road, traveling to Tyler, TX to face UT Tyler on Thursday, January 18 at 5pm.
