Laredo, Texas - The Dustdevils (16-4, 8-4) returned home after a four-game road trip to face Eastern New Mexico (6-11, 2-9) in Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night in the TAMIU KCB.
In the first quarter, the Dustdevils capitalized on their opportunities, shooting 5-13 from the field (38.46%) and finishing the quarter with a 12-7 lead. The Dustdevil defense held the Greyhounds to just 3 of 13 from the field (23.08%) in the quarter.
TAMIU extended their lead in the second quarter, shooting 62.50% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.
ENMU continued to face difficulties in the second quarter, shooting 3-14 from the field (21.43%) and 0% from deep. The poor shooting allowed TAMIU to take a 25-15 lead into halftime.
ENMU turned it around in the third quarter as they found their offensive groove, shooting 43.75% from the field and making 50% of their three-point attempts to erase the ten-point deficit. TAMIU struggled in the quarter and were outscored, leading to a 38-38 game heading into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter was closely contested, with both teams trading baskets. ENMU had a strong finish, shooting 40% from the field and 42.86% beyond the arc. Despite the late surge, the Dustdevils emerged victorious, outscoring Eastern N.M. 22-18 in the quarter for a final score of 60-56.
Raiana Brown led the Dustdevils with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Samiyah Worrell contributed 11 points to the victory and
Ngozi Obineke added 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The Dustdevils return to action on Saturday, January 27 at 1 pm when they face Western New Mexico in the TAMIU KCB.
