Laredo, TX -TAMIU got back in the win column with a 73-70 victory over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon in the TAMIU KCB. The first half of the game unfolded as an evenly matched contest, with both teams heading to the locker room with a tied score of 36-36. St. Mary's showcased a balanced offensive attack, led by Jalon Johnson, Tyler Caron, and Lachlan Bofinger, contributing to a 45.95% shooting and just 28.57 from beyond the arc.
TAMIU, on the other hand, shot 43.75% on 14-32 shooting from the field and 33.33% from deep. The first half featured a competitive battle, with the lead changing hands six times and both teams displaying effective scoring in the paint.
In the second half, St. Mary's continued their efficient scoring, shooting 56.52% from the field.
TAMIU maintained their composure and saw significant contributions from
John Achebe and
Shannon Strickland. Achebe's double-double performance (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Strickland's three-point shooting (3-9) were instrumental in securing the win. The game featured intense back-and-forth action, with ten lead changes and six ties. Points off turnovers were limited, highlighting both teams' defensive efforts.
