Dustdevils Cruise Past Rattlers with Another Double-Digit Victory

Laredo, TX – The Dustdevils finish a 2-0 week and improve to 13-2 (5-2) with a 71-54 victory over St. Mary's (2-10, 4-2) on Saturday afternoon in the TAMIU KCB. The game kicked off with a fiercely contested first quarter. St. Mary's displayed a slightly superior shooting percentage, going 6-17 from the field TAMIU's 5-12. St. Mary's took the lead at the end of the first quarter with a score of 16-15.

TAMIU dominated the second quarter, outscoring St. Mary's, 23-8. The Dustdevils held St. Mary's to just 3-13 from the field, resulting in a halftime score favoring TAMIU, 38-24.

In the third quarter, St. Mary's rallied to outscore TAMIU,18-15. However, the Dustdevils maintained their lead with balanced scoring, concluding the third quarter ahead at 53-42.

The Dustdevils maintained their lead in the fourth quarter despite a late push by St. Mary's. The Rattler's effort proved insufficient to overcome the deficit, and TAMIU ultimately won the game with a final score of 71-54.

Malea Jackson led the Dustdevils with 23 points and 4 steals. Raiana Brown added 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, and went a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line. St. Mary's struggled with shooting efficiency, concluding the game with a 38.9% shooting percentage. The Dustdevils dominated in points off turnovers with 25 compared to St. Mary's 15 and forced 31 turnovers on the afternoon.

TAMIU will be back in action on Thursday, January 11in Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Christian.
