Billings, Montana – The Dustdevils opened the 2024-25 season against the number six team in the country at the 2024 D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead. TAMIU faced off against Montana State University – Billings, their first of two top 10 opponents in the tournament. The Dustdevils controlled the fourth quarter, but the Yellowjackets earned the 76-45 victory.
In the opening quarter, TAMIU held the Yellowjackets to just 1-7 (14%) from three-point range.
Angelique Morgan was TAMIU's leading scorer with five points in the first ten minutes, with
Janiya Murphy,
Taylor Jacobson and
Trinity Chears contributing to the offense as well.
The Yellowjackets went on a run in the second quarter and took a 46-16 lead into halftime.
Josie Igherighe,
Aaliyah McMillan, Murphy and Chears provided the offense for the Dustdevils in the third quarter, while the defense forced five Yellowjacket turnovers.
TAMIU started building momentum in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Yellowjackets 20-15. Murphy made her presence known with seven points in the quarter. Murphy and Chears were the offensive leaders for TAMIU, both finishing the game with 11 points.
Overall, the Dustdevils shot 14-56 (25%) from the field, 2-12 from three-point range and 15-22 from the free throw line.
The Dustdevils are back in action tomorrow morning against #8 Union University. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. CT.
