Dustdevils Take Down Sul Ross State At PEG Energy Stadium Mob Fest

Laredo, Texas- It was an exciting day for some Lone Star Conference soccer as the TAMIU Dustdevils took on the Sul Ross State Lobos. It was an electrifying atmosphere as fans from all over entered PEG Energy Stadium. It marks the first time in history that TAMIU soccer has played at the Laredo Heat Stadium. It was the first annual "Mob Fest" as many departments, organizations and companies came out to support the Dustdevils. Fans would be greeted with free t-shirts, a ticket for a chance to win giveaways and free food for the fans in attendance. The greatest was yet to come, as the Dustdevil men's soccer team took down Sul Ross State to claim their first conference win of the season.

The Dustdevils came out playing high-energy soccer as they completely swarmed the Lobos and easily held possession for most of the match. The Dustdevils would be the first to strike as Tiziano Klamer would knock in a goal just out of the goalkeepers reach to put the Dustdevils on the board 1-0. Klamer was assisted by Gustavo Andres Suarez. The fans erupted as the Dustdevils were quick to score at just the 20th minute. Stellar defense by both teams ended up making the rest of the half a scoreless affair.

The TAMIU Spirit and Dance team gave a spectacular halftime performance. The crowd was ecstatic as numerous individuals walked away with prizes.

Sul Ross State would quickly answer back five minutes into the second period as Zachary Trimming nailed a goal for the Lobos to even the score. It was not until the 77th minute that the Dustdevils were able to answer back as Abner Trevino hammered one into the back of the net as he was assisted by Abenezer Jabir. This goal would prove to be the deciding factor as the Dustdevils went on to take the match. TAMIU finished with 12 shots on the evening with four on goal. TAMIU also lead in possession as the Dustdevils controlled most of the pitch.

Director of Athletics Griz Zimmermann had the following to say about the event,

"We are extremely proud of our coaches and soccer team for pulling out a win here today. TAMIU Athletics is extremely grateful for the hospitality and the opportunity the Laredo Heat family has given us today. We are thankful for all of the fans, students, businesses, organizations and departments that helped make this a memorable experience for everyone. We have a great community here in Laredo and it was a fantastic day of soccer!"

The TAMIU men's soccer team will play against Dallas Baptist University at 7:00 PM CDT on Wednesday in Dallas.
