Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils kicked off conference play against the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas. The Javelinas took advantage of big first and third quarters to walk away with a 74-50 victory.
The Javelinas held the Dustdevils to just six points in the opening quarter. TAMIU shot 3-9 (33%) from the field. TAMUK shot 8-11 (72.7%) from the field and 4-5 from three-point range.
The Dustdevil defense held the Javelinas to just 3-8 (37.5%) from the field and 1-4 from beyond the arc. TAMIU's offense shot 8-16 from the field and 2-6 from range as they outscored TAMUK 20-12 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, TAMIU shot 2-12 (16.7%) from the field and made 5-6 (83%) of their free throws.
In the final 10 minutes, the Dustdevils shot 6-14 (42.9%) from the field and 1-3 (33%) from three-point range.
Janiya Murphy led the offense with 13 points.
Josie Igherighe tallied 11 points and four rebounds.
The Dustdevils head to Odessa to face UTPB on Dec. 5
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
